In early 2024 I set out on a 12-month backpacking trip around the world and returned with a load of images, primarily landscapes, taken on my iPhone. The seeds of a hobby I had first shown interest in when I was thirteen had sprouted, and in June 2025 I set out on another trip for 10 weeks, this time to Europe, where the majority of my time was spent in the south of Italy.
Though a believer that gear comes second to the artists vision and intent, I set off on this trip with two cameras: a 35mm Minolta SLR and a Nikon DSLR. Here I applied self-taught technical and conceptual skills and undertook a 1-to-1 workshop with Eduardo Ortiz, a Chilean-born street and life photographer.
As I began to feel my way through the medium, I identified what brought me the most fulfilment: working with and building rapport with people. As a result, my photography now focuses on people and places, with the intention of expressing the nature of humans within their environment. For me, people bring life to an image and can entice the viewer to question what they’re seeing.
However, I believe life can also be brought to an image through beautiful landscapes and the interplay of composition, contrast, light and texture. Here my approach is different, though the intention remains the same – to evoke a sense of curiosity and questioning from the viewer.
